Our greenstaff are, when the weather allows, continuing with pipe laying works on the fourth hole. When completed this will greatly improve the drainage in front of and on the green and will bring the ponding problems during wet spells to an end. Phil and Mark are also busying themselves with the many other jobs which need to be done to get the course ready for the season ahead.
Winter competitions continue to be well supported and the difficult conditions don’t seem to affecting the standard of play too much looking at the winning scores each week! The start of the season proper is almost upon us and we look forward to our traditional opening event on 27th March when the Captains team take on the Vice Captains team in the annual challenge match.
The opening match will be followed by a video racenight in the clubhouse which is always loads of fun. Part of the funds raised at this event will go towards junior golf coaching so support from members would be greatly appreciated. Horses can be purchased on the night or in advance by contacting Scott McElrath. With great prizes on offer and top betting prices guaranteed come along with your guests and enjoy!
Other social events to look forward to in the near future include a Quiz Night on Saturday 13th March and the Captains Dinner on Saturday 17th April. The quiz is for teams of up to four persons and an entry sheet has been posted on the notice board. Details on the Captains dinner has also been posted on the notice board and tickets are expected to go on sale shortly.
Katie will, once again, be treating members and guests to Mothers Day lunch on Sunday 14th March. If past years are anything to go by there’ll be no better value in town so book your table now to avoid disappointment.
Our Burns Supper held on the 5th February was, like previous years, a huge success and thanks must go to Donald for his organisation and chairmanship, to Katie and her team for the excellent meal and bar service and to all who contributed during the evening. The sell out crowd were really treated to some excellent performances and the club really does appreciate the contributions made by participants and the support given by members and their guests.
Membership is available in all categories and new members will be made very welcome. Our rates are currently the lowest in the Borders for an 18 hole course and, with no joining fee being charged, there’s no better value to be found anywhere within the surrounding area. Anyone interested in joining should contact our Office Administrator, Deryck Scott on 01573 223009 or our Secretary, Donald Jack, on 01573 228821 (evenings).
